A Night With the Stars
SEPTEMBER 14

One-of-a-kind Star Gazing event for 2013!

Board the Cheat Mountain Salamander at Cheat Bridge for a night-time excursion into the depths of the wilderness to study the stars. Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) staff will guide you through the night-time sky via telescopes. Campfire and s’mores! Bring a camping chair, flashlight and jacket for this outdoor excursion.

So mysterious that an inspector in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police has spent his career in hot pursuit finally cornering this modern day Robin Hood on a train in the West Virginia hills.

It’s no coincidence that every employee from the Gater Group in the Everglades finds themselves on an excursion train participating in a so called “Training Session”. And who is this peculiar woman who feels entitled to ask so many odd and seemingly random questions? It was, after all, no fault of this gator-wrestling gang that people had been disappearing right and left – and of course the Alligators weren’t complaining.

OCTOBER 26 HALLOWEEN MURDER MYSTERY
Werewolf Moon

A crisp October train ride at the turn of the century through the majestic Alleghenies is simply perfect until without warning…is that a wolf howling? There had been reports of wolves in this area, and you have to watch those things, they can be vicious. Fortunately, on board this very train is werewolf chaser and amateur sleuth, Dom Helsing, who not only hears the howling in the dark, but is absolutely convinced he protect the passenger at least until they reach, the tiny logging town of Cass.

The Great West Virginia Train Race

A trip to Old Spruce to watch Steam and Diesel vie for the position of “Most Powerful Mountain Climbing” Train in West Virginia! The Cheat Mountain Salamander meets up with the Cass Scenic Railroad at Old Spruce to compete in the race of the year!

In celebration of West Virginia’s 150^th Birthday, this all-day event featuring a BBQ and live entertainment will be one of our best. Surprises in store!

An enjoyable weekend of Blues in Elkins!

Riverside Blues Festival: music all day Saturday. Overnight lodging at the Iron Road Inn, the only railroad-themed Inn and Lodge in Elkins.
Riverside Blues Train to the High Falls of Cheat on Sunday with an extended layover. Enjoy a picnic lunch and Blues entertainment. Blues Gospel Sing w/ the Blues Babies Dance Troupe in Town Square upon return (4 pm).

The Riverside Blues Fest is a fundraiser to help the Riverside School Association raise funds to rehabilitate the Riverside African-American high school, the only Black High School located in the Potomac Highland region. Today, the Blues Fest has transformed into a wonderful celebration of the Allegheny Highlands Black Roots and an all-around good time for festival attendees.
